Srinagar, July 18 (Reporter) The body of a youth, who was missing for the last three days, was found in River Jhelum in south Kashmir, police said.
They said on July 15, a report was received that Aabid Manzoor Dar, 35, a resident of Barsoo Awantipora and a labourer by profession, has been missing since morning on the Monday last.
Thereafter, a missing report was registered at Police Station Awantipora and an enquiry was conducted to trace the missing person.
Police said the technical analysis of CDR (Call Detail Record ) of missing person was done and resultantly three persons who last made contact with missing person were called and questioned.
“They revealed that all (four) including the missing person were gambling together on the roadside and on seeing the passing of nearby police patrol team, they got frightened and started running. One of the person revealed that he crossed over to the other side of river but he didn't know the whereabouts of the missing person,” police said.
The police also questioned boatmen working in Jhelum and other acquaintances of the missing person, but found no clue.
“Resultantly, SDRF team was called and pressed into service who found the dead body near Barsoo. The postmortem of the body was being conducted through a board of doctors,” police said.
It added that an investigation and an enquiry under section 194 BNSS has been initiated and all material facts are being factored in during the course of investigation.
Police is also investigating the gambling aspect.
The recovery of the body of the missing youth triggered a protest, The protesters also blocked Srinagar Jammu highway. Some protesters alleged that the missing man may have been murdered.
Meanwhile, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti alleged police handedness on the protesters.
“Strongly condemn JK Awantipora Police’s handedness. A young man from the area died under mysterious circumstances & his family has been rightfully demanding a probe. Instead of coming to their rescue @JmuKmrPolice has instead assaulted QNS journalist Irshad Hajam for reporting the truth.
