Bhubaneswar, July 25 (Reporter) The Odisha Assembly witnessed pandemonium during zero hour over the Polavaram project and a BJP minister's remark to arrest the Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik. This forced Speaker Surama Padhi to adjourn the house until 1600 hours. After a three-day stalemate in the Assembly over the opposition's demand to arrest the governor’s son for allegedly assaulting a government official, the situation normalized on Thursday when the Assembly convened at 1030 hours to take up the question hour. However, trouble started during zero hour when opposition Congress members trooped into the well of the house over the Polavaram project, stating that the project would displace thousands of tribals in several Odisha villages. Congress Legislature Party leader Ram Chandra Kadam stood up on the reporter’s table while Tara Prasad Bahinipati rushed to the speaker’s podium and tried to snatch the speaker’s microphone, leading to pandemonium in the house. The Congress members shouted slogans inside the well and demanded a house committee be constituted to protect the livelihoods of hundreds of tribals who are likely to be displaced due to the Polavaram project. On the other hand, BJD members, protesting against the Parliamentary Affairs Minister’s remark to arrest the Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, also rushed into the well of the house, demanding that the minister's remark be expunged from the Assembly proceedings. The house soon plunged into chaos, with both the Congress and the BJD members shouting slogans against the government regarding their respective demands. Sensing the problem and unable to bring the house to order, Speaker Surama Padhi adjourned it until 1600 hours...////...
