Kolkata, Apr 20 (Reporter) After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP and RSS of inciting communal violence in various parts of the state, including Murshidabad, BJP it cell chief Amit Malviya on Sunday demanded her resignation for "misleading" the public.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the party's co-incharge for West Bengal wrote, “Using her official letterhead as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee — who is expected to serve all citizens impartially — is instead blaming the principal opposition party and a non-political organisation for her administration’s failures.”
Malviya’s post was in response to Banerjee's open letter to the people of the state. In it, Banerjee accused the BJP and RSS of stoking violence and appealed for the restoration of peace in the state.
“The BJP and their associates have become extremely aggressive towards West Bengal. They want to bring ED, CBI, and CRPF into Bengal.” Among their allies, there is also the RSS. I used to avoid naming the RSS earlier, but now I must say that the RSS is deeply involved in spreading false propaganda across the country. The BJP is using it to do politics. They want to play a dirty game,” the chief minister wrote.
“A phrase she has recently taken to repeating is: “I hadn’t named them before, but I am doing so now.” Ironically, she used the same line just days ago to target Union Home Minister Amit Shah—someone she has previously accused without evidence or restraint. Her allegations against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh follow a similar pattern: frequent, unsubstantiated, and politically motivated,” Malviya wrote.
Alleging that the West Bengal police have not endorsed the chief minister’s claim that the violence in Murshidabad was orchestrated by external elements, Malviya said, “West Bengal police were already aware of the rallies. Why, then, were they not stopped in advance? Did mobs, weapons, and stones materialise out of thin air? It is evident that the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has repeatedly misled the public. Accountability is long overdue—Mamata Banerjee must step down.”
The Bengal BJP co-incharge was referring to a recent report by the West Bengal police submitted to the Calcutta High Court, which stated that on April 11, mobs in Murshidabad district protesting the Waqf Act had blocked the national highway and vandalised both government and private property at Suti and Samserganj, including setting fire to the SDPO Jangipur's government vehicle, a highway patrolling vehicle, and other public assets.
The BJP leader’s criticism followed repeated allegations by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was behind the "misuse" of central agencies to facilitate the "entry of infiltrators" from Bangladesh and i"nstigate unrest" in West Bengal.
Banerjee had claimed that individuals disguised as BSF personnel and wearing slippers were involved in inciting the violence. She also alleged that children were paid between Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 to pelt stones, and stated that an investigation was in progress, assuring that those responsible would not be spared.
“This raises a serious question of credibility and impartiality: As both the Chief Minister and Home Minister of the state — who directly oversees the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) — how can Mamata Banerjee be expected to ensure an unbiased investigation into the Murshidabad violence, especially when a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising top state officials has been formed under her own government?” Malviya wrote...////...
