Belagavi, June 5 (Reporter) In the aftermath of the Karnataka ruling Congress party's underperformance in the Lok Sabha elections, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi attributed the disappointing results to the "overconfidence" of the party leadership.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Jarkiholi implicitly criticised Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, suggesting that this overconfidence led to the party's failure to secure more seats.
The Congress managed to win only 9 out of 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, falling short of the 15 to 20 seats anticipated by party leaders.
"This kind of result is inevitable when the 'director' and 'producer' falter in their efforts. The election period is brief, and vigilance during this time is crucial. If we aren't prepared and alert, the opportunity slips away. We must be proactive during that critical phase," said Jarkiholi, a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
He further pointed out that the leadership's decision to neglect several Lok Sabha segments and their overconfidence in securing certain seats without adequate campaigning contributed significantly to the reduced seat count.
In contrast, Jarkiholi's daughter, Priyanka Jarkiholi, achieved a notable victory against senior BJP leader Annasaheb Jolle in the Chikkodi Parliamentary constituency.
Jarkiholi, a prominent leader among the oppressed classes in the state, has also advocated for the creation of additional Deputy CM posts to balance Shivakumar's influence. He has expressed support for a Dalit CM candidate should there be a change in leadership from CM Siddaramaiah...////...
