New Delhi, July 29 (Reporter) India on Monday sent humanitarian assistance comprising medical supplies to Haiti where gang wars have forced more than 578,000 Haitians to flee their homes and nearly five million people - almost half the population - are facing acute hunger.
The MEA spokesperson in a post on X said that India has sent nine tons of medical supplies, including blood transfusion essentials:
“India sends humanitarian assistance to Haiti!
“In solidarity with the people of Haiti, India’s humanitarian assistance containing nine tons of medical supplies left New Delhi today, for Port-au-Prince.
“The consignment includes blood transfusion essentials, reagents for Immunohematology, Rapid tests and ELISA, among others.”
According to the UN, 1.6 million of people are at risk of starvation in Haiti.
Armed gangs, which now control most of the capital Port-au-Prince, carry out widespread killings, ransom kidnappings and sexual violence.
