Four held in Manipur for extortion and vehicle theft

Imphal, July 14 (Reporter) In a series of operations, Manipur police and security forces yesterday arrested four suspects linked to extortion and a vehicle theft across various districts of the state. Police said today that an active member of a proscribed outfit was apprehended from Hapta Kangjeibung, in Imphal East. The suspect, a 43-year-old resident of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, was reportedly involved in extorting money from local businessmen. Another active cadre associated with a separate outlawed group was arrested by security forces in Mayang Imphal Bengoon Makha Leikai, Imphal West. The 40-year-old suspect, a resident of Bengoon Loukok, was allegedly involved in extortion activities in the surrounding areas. Authorities recovered a mobile phone with a SIM card and an Aadhaar card from his possession. In a separate operation the same day, police apprehended a 33-year-old active member of another banned group from Thoubal Kshetri Leikai Moirangpalli under Thoubal police station. The suspect, a resident of Thoubal Wangkhem Mamang Leikai, was allegedly engaged in extorting government employees in Thoubal district. The police also arrested a 27-year-old individual involved in a vehicle theft from the Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai area. Following his arrest, a stolen car was recovered...////...
