Forces recover arms, arrest militants across Manipur

Imphal, July 12 (Reporter) Security forces continued intensive search operations and area domination in vulnerable and fringe zones across several districts of Manipur, leading to significant seizures and arrests yesterday. Police today said security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the foothills of Itham Uyok Ching, Itham village, under Maphou Dam police station, Imphal East district. The recovered items included one 12-bore single barrel gun, two rounds of .32 caliber ammunition, two hand grenades, one pistol with magazine, one live cartridge, two tube launchers, one wireless set with charger, and two detonators. An active member of a banned underground outfit was arrested from Maharabi, under Sekmai police station, Imphal West district. The suspect was found in possession of a wallet containing identification documents. Authorities confirmed that the suspect had undergone 45-day military training in Myanmar and was operating in the region for the proscribed group. Additionally, two operatives of another banned group were apprehended from the Umathel area, Waikhong Police Station, Kakching district. Both individuals were residents of the area, and two mobile phones were seized from their possession. Further operations led to the arrest of another active cadre of a separate underground organization from Moirangpurel Khunou, near Itham bridge in Imphal East district. One mobile phone was seized from the suspect. Later three active cadres of a proscribed outfit, allegedly involved in extortion and threats against civilians, shopkeepers, and bank staff were apprehended. Manipur police arrested one suspect from Kanglatombi Bazar, Imphal West district, for illegal possession of arms and ammunition. Recovered from the suspect were one pistol with magazine, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, and one mobile phone with a SIM card. In another incident on July 11, security forces apprehended an active cadre of yet another faction from Keibi Khullen village, Imphal East district. The individual was allegedly extorting funds from the public and private sectors to raise money for the proscribed group. A mobile phone with a SIM card was recovered. Another member of a banned outfit was arrested from the Wabagai area under Hiyanglam police station, Kakching district. The suspect, who had also received military training in Myanmar, was found in possession of a mobile phone...////...
