Lucknow, Feb 27 (Reporter) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday alleged that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sought political opportunism by hurting the sacred sentiments of Maha Kumbh, the great festival of religion, faith, and service.
In a statement issued here, Akhilesh said that there was chaos everywhere in Maha Kumbh. "By making Kumbh a medium of false propaganda, the feelings of crores of devotees were played with and used for political gains," he said.
He alleged that the CM formally concluded the Kumbh on Thursday as per his convenience. "Due to this, the wish of crores of elders who have been deprived of Amrit Snan due to some reasons remained unfulfilled. In such a situation, the time should have been extended by one month, but Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) arbitrariness became an obstacle," he said.
The SP chief said that Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj Sangam has centuries of mythological and historical importance. "From the time of Kannauj emperor Harshvardhan to the SP government, Kumbh was successfully organised in 2013," he said.
He said, "The arrangements made for the 2013 Kumbh under the SP government were appreciated by the whole world, including saints and sages. The team of Harvard University had praised the arrangements made for cleanliness, sanitation and crowd management in the Maha Kumbh at that time, calling them amazing and also published a book on it. Just yesterday, discussions and seminars were held in New York on the Kumbh organised in 2013 under the Samajwadi government."
Akhilesh said that the intentions of the BJP government and the CM were flawed from the beginning regarding the Maha Kumbh. "They were busy giving a political colour to the religious and spiritual event. The CM saw more business and commercial benefits than faith in the Maha Kumbh. He remained busy with those calculations. He committed the sin of destroying the sanctity of the religious event. No attention was paid to the arrangements and crowd management, due to which a stampede occurred and a large number of devotees lost their lives," he alleged.
He said that even after repeated demands by the SP, the BJP government is not disclosing the correct number of people killed in the stampede at the Kumbh. "Many people are still wandering in search of their relatives. This is the insensitivity of the BJP...////...
