Sangrur (Punjab), Feb 27 (Reporter) The Punjab Police have arrested six people, who allegedly wrote pro-Khalistan slogans lured by anti-India activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun with money, a senior officer said on Thursday.
Sangrur District Police Superintendent Palwinder Singh Cheema said the slogans were found in Satauj village of the district, Four of those arrested are from Bhatinda district, and the remaining two hail from Mansa district.
Cheema said a case was registered at Dharamgarh police station regarding slogans about Khalistan being written in Satauj village. There were also reports that a flag with "Khalistan" written on it was displayed.
Cheema said a video displaying the slogans and the flag was made viral on social media by Canadian-American Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who has formed an organisation named Sikh For Justice (SFJ), which has been declared illegal by the Government of India.
He said Pannun, who often makes provocative statements and indulges in activities against India, is creating an atmosphere of "fear and intimidation" by fomenting hatred among people of different religions and communities and making them fight among themselves.
He said the matter is very sensitive and is causing "fear" among the common people, due to which a case has been registered against the said unknown persons and an investigation has been initiated.
Cheema said the six people nabbed include Jagraj Singh alias Soni and Gurmeet Singh alias
Gitti -both from Mansa district. The other four - Amritpal Singh, Baljinder Singh, Baljit Singh alias Prabhu and Atarvir Singh alias A - are from Bathinda district.
He said the arrest of the alleged accused Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is pending.
He said during the investigation, it has come to light that Pannu, who stays abroad, is luring the innocent youth of Punjab with money into such illegal activities. Pannun's sole aim isto spread unrest and fear in India.
He said during the investigation, the six arrested people admitted their mistake in carrying out such activity and said they only did it out of the lure of money. Pannun himself is hiding abroad, but by luring the youth of Punjab with money, he is throwing them into the swamp of crime and spoiling their future.
