We must fix responsibility: Pradhan over deaths of UPSC aspirants

New Delhi, July 29 (Reporter) Demanding accountability for the deaths of three UPSC aspirants due to flooding in the basement of a UPSC coaching centre in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday stressed that incident shouldn’t be politicised and that responsibility must be fixed to ensure such incidents do not recur. During a discussion in the Rajya Sabha, Pradhan termed the incident as unfortunate adding, “The incident has no place in a civilised society. We must fix responsibility so that such incidents do not recur.” “There should be no politics. Negligence has happened and someone has to take responsibility so that a solution can be found,” he said. Nothing would compensate for the loss the bereaved families have suffered, Pradhan said. He stressed that the central government consistently sent advisories related to coaching centres to the states and Union Territories in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2024. “What should be the minimum standard requirements and safeguards of coaching centres, what should be the penalty for ignoring these, all such suggestions and advisory were again sent by the central government in January 2024,” he added. “If these advisories were followed by the states, then an incident like Old Rajendra Nagar would never have happened,” Pradhan asserted adding that the state government is responsible for implementing the advisories. “No state government should run away from the responsibility,” he said...////...
