Wanted woman drug smuggler booked under PIT NDPS Act in Kashmir : Police

Srinagar, Jan 5 (Reporter) A wanted woman has been booked under PIT NDPS Act while another woman was among the seven drug peddlers arrested by police with contraband substances in Kashmir valley on Friday. Police said a most wanted and notorious woman drug smuggler identified as Afroza Begum alias Afree a resident of Ganie Hamam Baramulla, presently staying at Hygam Sopore has been booked under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS) Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority. The woman drug smuggler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu, police said. Police in Baramulla busted a Norco drug module when they arrested five persons, including a woman, who were boarding a vehicle, during checking at Kralhar Baramulla. During their search, 45 grams of contraband Brown Sugar & 345 grams of Charas like substances was recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Sharik Ahmad Sheikh, Sharif Ahmad Sheikh, Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, Muskaan Bano all residents of DewanBagh Baramulla & Bakir Ahmad Rather a resident of Chandsooma Kanispora. They have been arrested and shifted to Police station Baramulla where they remained in custody, police said. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at police Station Baramulla and investigations have been initiated. A police party at a checkpoint established at Boniyar Market in Baramulla, intercepted a suspected person. During his search, 52 grams of Charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. The accused was identified as Mudasir Rashid Wani a resident of Gantamulla Bala. He was arrested and shifted to PS Boniyar where he remained in custody. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at police Station Boniyar and investigations have been initiated. A specific check point was established by the Police Station Kund at Waripora, during which one vehicle with one person identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Handroo a resident of Boat colony Anantnag on board was intercepted. During searching police were able to recover 3 Kg of Poppy Straw like contraband substance from the said vehicle. Preliminary investigation stated that Handroo is involved in the drug peddling and is promoting illegal menace and luring the youth of the area towards drug addiction. He was arrested and sent to jail, police said. The vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized. A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act stands registered at Police station Kund and further investigation is in progress, they added...////...
