Hyderabad, Nov 26 (Reporter) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed deep regret over the Supreme Court’s verdict cancelling the house plots allotted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalist Housing Society (JNJHS).
In a statement here on Tuesday, he emphasised that while the court's decision must be respected, the blame for this situation lies with the BRS party, which held power for ten years, and the current Congress government.
Seventeen years ago, journalists collectively raised Rs 12 crores by taking loans and mortgaging gold, paying Rs 2 lakhs each to the government to secure plots under the JNJHS.
However, successive governments led by the BRS and Congress failed to fulfill their promises. Instead, they repeatedly ignored or delayed the allocation, causing immense distress to journalists. Under KCR’s rule, journalists who raised their voices for justice were often mistreated and humiliated, leaving many disillusioned and struggling.
Sanjay Kumar criticised the negligence of both parties, blaming them for creating a situation where journalists and their families are now left devastated by the Supreme Court's ruling. He called the suffering of journalists and their families indescribable, highlighting the financial and emotional toll on a community that has long served society selflessly despite their meager salaries and lack of support. Many journalists, he added, have died waiting for these promised house plots.
The Minister urged the Congress government to use its discretionary powers to allocate houses to the affected journalists immediately, as promised in its election manifesto. He assured that the BJP stands ready to cooperate fully in addressing the issue. Sanjay Kumar also warned that if the Congress fails to act, the BJP, in solidarity with journalists, will organize a mass movement for justice.
He promised that if the BJP comes to power, all eligible journalists in Telangana, including members of the JNJHS, will be allotted houses without delay, ensuring their long-standing struggle for dignity and security is finally addressed...////...
