Kolkata, Apr 21 (Reporter) Two persons were killed when a fire broke out at a store room on the third floor of a residential building in north Kolkata's Pathuriaghata midnight last night, fire brigade and police said on Monday.
The fire brigade personnel after dousing the flames retrieved the two unconscious bodies on the top floor of the dilapidated building and took them to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where the medics declared them brought dead this morning.The two victims were the priests by profession.
The fire brigade personnel said the two victims died of suffocation, also known as asphyxiation, after their attempt to go to the terrace failed as the rooftop door was locked.
The fire was noticed around a little midnight around 0030 hours and the fire brigade personnel had to douse the flames from the adjacent building since the main door was also locked from inside. Ten fire fighting vehicles were pressed into services to combat the flames.
Local Councillor alleged the house, though a residential complex is used for commercial purposes...////...
