Srinagar, Nov 14 (Reporter) All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina on Thursday asked the people to follow the path and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji to achieve true peace.
Extending the greetings to people on the occasion of 555th birth anniversary of Guru Ji, Raina said the ultimate peace can be achieved only if people follow the path set out by him.
In a statement, APSCC Chairman Raina, said that people should follow the teachings of Guru Ji so that his message of love and peace percolates down.
He said Kashmir held a special place for Guru Nanak Ji since he visited the valley and Leh along with his companions which left an indomitable impact on Kashmir.
There are various testimonies and artefacts which confirm the historical lineage with Gurudwara in Leh, Bijbehara, and Ramnagar as well as many other parts of the union territory which are associated with his visit. Guru Nanak had visited Kashmir in 1518 AD.
He stayed at Bijbehara and Avantipur and met Pandit Brahm Das who was highly impressed with the way of life and teachings of Guru Nanak which led him to embrace Sikhism that began in the valley.
Universal brotherhood and secularism entailed his companionship with Bala; a Hindu and Mardana; a Muslim. A musical instrument ‘rabaab’ that was always carried by Mardana, is preserved at Shernangla in Ramnagar Jammu.
Guru Nanak preached against caste systems and suppression. He covered thousands of miles on foot, addressing and preaching to people about humanity.
The natives of Basoli were very much influenced by the philosophy of Guru Nanak and the same is reflected in the 17-18th century paintings (Pahari and miniature paintings), which are available in libraries worldwide.
