There was a heated altercation between the CPI(M) functionaries and the girl’s family members, resulting in a free-for-all. The family members of the girl and the office-bearers of the caste association ransacked the party office, breaking all the furniture and window glass panes. Two members of the CPI(M) were injured in the incident and were treated at the Government hospital. Senior police officials visited the CPI(M) office and held an investigation. A large number of policemen were deployed at the party office as a precautionary measure. Police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC and arrested 13 people, including the parents of the girl, today. Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary K Balakrishnan strongly condemned the attack on the party office and urged the police to take stern action against the perpetrators of violence.
