On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in India, “Constitution Assassination Day” was observed on Wednesday. A seminar on the theme “Horrors of the Emergency” was held at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore, where Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, as the chief guest, stated that the struggle against the Emergency was a fight to save the democracy of India. CM Dr. Yadav said that during the Emergency, even judicial decisions were overturned, and it became a dark blot on the face of democracy. “Those who imposed the Emergency on June 25, 1975, are solely responsible for this national disgrace, and they can never be absolved of it,” he said.
The event was inaugurated with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp. Other prominent attendees included Minister of Urban Administration and Housing Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister of Water Resources Shri Tulsiram Silawat, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sudhanshu Trivedi, MP Shri Shankar Lalwani, MLAs Shri Ajay Vishnoi and Shri Mahendra Hardia, along with other public representatives.
CM Dr. Yadav recalled the brave struggle of Loktantra Senanis (Democracy Warriors), who fought decisively for the protection of democracy. “Thousands of innocent people were imprisoned, and widespread atrocities were committed during the Emergency,” he said. He also paid tribute to the contributions of the late democracy fighters.
