Khartoum, Jan 14 (Reporter) The Sudanese sovereignty council said on Saturday that it had refused to attend the summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), scheduled for January 18 in Uganda, since Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, had agreed to participate in it. On Saturday, Dagalo said on X that he had received and accepted an invitation from the IGAD to attend the summit. "The government of Sudan believes that there is no need to hold a new summit to discuss the issue of Sudan until the results of the previous summit are implemented. What happens in Sudan is its internal affair," the council said in a statement published by Sudanese news agency SUNA. The council also criticized IGAD's failure to implement the results of the recent summit in Djibouti regarding a planned meeting between the leaders of the two parties to the conflict in Sudan. In mid-December, the IGAD said that Abdel Fattah Burhan, the head of the Sudanese sovereignty council, and Dagalo agreed to hold a personal meeting but it was later postponed. In April, violent clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the RSF. The parties to the conflict have since introduced a number of temporary nationwide ceasefires, but none has helped settle the conflict.
