New Delhi, Feb 20 (Reporter) BJP MLA Ashish Sood who won from Janakpuri constituency, took oath as a Cabinet minister alongside the Chief Minister of Rekha Gupta, on Thursday at Ramlila Maidan.
A long-time BJP member, Sood is well-acquainted with Delhi’s political landscape.
Considered close to BJP national president J P Nadda and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, he secured a commanding win in Janakpuri constituency, defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Rajesh Rishi by 18,766 votes.
Veteran BJP leader Ashish Sood, who shares strong ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has emerged as a leading contender for the position after the party’s strong performance in the assembly elections.
He was general secretary of the BJP youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), in 2003 before being elevated as its national vice president.
In 2008, he was appointed secretary of Delhi BJP and later general secretary, before being elected as a councillor in the then-SDMC.
Known for his organisational skills, Sood has held various significant roles within the party, including serving as a councillor, Leader of the House in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), and more recently, as the party’s Goa in-charge and co-incharge for Jammu and Kashmir.
Sood, who has been a part of the BJP for several years, is no stranger to Delhi’s political landscape.
