State to explore possibilities to conduct SCA elections in HPU: CM

Shimla, Jun 14 (Reporter) Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday assured that the state government would explore possibility of conducting Students Central Association (SCA) elections inthe Himachal Pradesh University (HPU). He gave this assurance when a delegation of the Students Federation of India (SFI) submitted a memorandum to him, urging him to lift ban on the SCA elections and to restore democratic set up in the University and other educational institutions. The Chief Minister who was in the HPU campus, said that discussions were being held with the University authorities in this regard. Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated a two-day 'Maitree' programme of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Alumni (Decadal Chapter of 90s). Speaking on this occasion, he said that the government was working to make Himachal a self-reliant state and numerous steps were being taken to improve the quality of education in all the government-run institutions. The government has initiated English medium in government schools starting from class I. Apart from this, Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools were coming up in all 68 assembly constituencies of the state in a phased manner which would provide state-of-the-art facilities to the students, he informed. The Chief Minister also said that the government mulls to bring innovative changes in the higher education sector based on modern teaching technologies so that every student could derive maximum benefit out of it, he added...////...
