Shah chairs 5hr-long security review meeting ahead of Amarnath Yatra

New Delhi, June 16 (Reporter) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday chaired a crucial meeting here with top officials of national security arms as he reviewed the Jammu and Kashmir situation ahead of the June 29 Amarnath Yatra after back to back terror attacks saw several lives lost in Jammu. The meeting, that took place in the North Block in two sessions lasted over five hours and was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of Intelligence Bureau, senior Army officers including Chief of Army Staff Manoj Pande and Chief of Army Staff designate General Upendra Dwivedi, besides Director General of CAPFs, Chief Secretary and DGP of J&K and other senior officials. The Home Minister was briefed about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Besides, Army and police officials also informed about the terrorist activities in the Union Territory. The officials were instructed to formulate a strategy to strictly deal with terror activities. The preparations related to the safety of the pilgrims and the facilities to be provided to them for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra were also reviewed in the meeting. The Amarnath Yatra will commence from June 29 and culminate on August 19. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reviewed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir with Amit Shah and Ajit Doval and other senior officials. In the meeting, the PM had asked to use full potential of the armed forces in anti-terrorism operations. A day later, the Home Minister also reviewed the law and order situation of the Union Territory in a meeting.
