Sensex plunges 624.82 points

Mumbai, May 27 (Reporter) Snapping a winning streak of last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday tanked 624.82 pts to settle at 81,551.63 on weak global cues. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 174.95 pts at 24,826.20. The NSE registered days high at 25,062.90 and days low at 24,704.10, days low. High volatility was witnessed during the session. Spurting over 1200 pts in last couple of sessions, the day opened in red, as the Sensex fell by 138 pts at 82,038.20. During the day it was nosedived 1055 pts at 81,121.70, days low, before closing at 81,551.63, sliding 624.82 pts as compared to its previous close. It remained under pressure the whole day owing to profit booking amid rising UD treasury yield even mute Q4 result too impacted the same. In stocks FMCG, Auto, Bankex and Utilities were main draggers. FMCG fell by 0.79 pc followed by Auto by 0.66 pc, Bankex by 0.60 pc and Utilities by 0.57 pc. The Mid cap moved up 0.18 pc and Small cap rose by 0.19 pc. In 30 scrips, 6 advanced while 24 declined. The losers were Ultracemco by 2.21 pc to Rs 11,429.90, ITC Ltd by 1.78 pc to Rs 434.90, Tata Motors by 1.61 pc to Rs 717.30 and Axis Bank by 1.38 pc to Rs 1198.45. The gainers were IndusInd Bank by 2.64 pc to Rs 821.35, Sun Pharma by 0.42 pc to Rs 1682.75, Adani Ports by 0.42 pc to Rs 1405.55 and Nestle India Ltd by 0.33 pc to Rs 2461.50. European market was up while US and Asian Market remained mixed. In Asian Market, Strait Times was up 0.53 pc and Hang Seng by 0.43.
