New Delhi, Aug 15 (Reporter) South Asian University (SAU), the only university run by SAARC countries, celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with grandeur here on Thursday. The event was marked by the presence of the university President, Prof. KK Aggarwal, who was the chief guest. He hosted the national flag and took the salute during the parade, emphasizing the importance of remembering the sacrifices of India's revolutionary heroes. Prof. Aggarwal informed the students from SAARC countries about India’s freedom struggle and highlighted the celebration as a symbol of “unity in diversity.” He also said how this event aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047 and underscored the importance of strengthening ties among SAARC member countries. The event was further enriched by captivating cultural performances from students of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, which were highly appreciated by the audience. These performances tied the program together emotionally, transcending linguistic barriers and showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the region. Indian students also contributed by performing patriotic songs that evoked deep emotions among the attendees, with many moved to tears by the powerful renditions. The paintings by students from Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh were particularly praised for their ability to express the spirit of the day. Special guest Prof. Saroj Aggarwal extended her heartfelt wishes for India’s Independence Day and praised the students for their wonderful performances.
