Melbourne, Jan 14 (Reporter) Russia's Andrey Rublev survived a major scare to overcome Brazil's Thiago Seyboth Wild 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6(10-6) to reach the second round of the Australian Open for the seventh time in eight appearances. Rublev looked set for a victory after pocketing the first two sets comfortably, but he was pushed to five sets in a contest lasting 3 hours and 43 minutes. The World No.5 failed to convert four match points on his opponent's serve at 5-6 in the fifth set, but the Russian held his nerve in the decisive tie-break, rallying from 2/5 to triumph on his fifth match point. Rublev floored himself after his win against Seyboth, who upset Daniil Medvedev at Roland Garros last year. Next, the Russian will aim to grab his sixth win from six when he locks horns with Japan's Taro Daniel or American Christopher Eubanks. Earlier this month, Rublev won the title at the ATP 250 event in Hong Kong earlier this month. Rublev found it challenging to power his ground through Seyboth who was equally adept at covering the court with dexterity. The Russian also grew spiteful at himself with his opponent's 68 winners. The World No.5, however, did not give in. His big-match experience spoke loudly in the closing stages as he obliterated the errors at the baseline and closed the net effectively to stay alive.
