Melbourne, Jan 14 (Reporter) Matteo Berrettini withdrew from the Australian Open on Sunday with a right foot injury.
"Matteo Berrettini has withdrawn from the Australian Open with a right foot injury,” tournament organizers said in a statement. "Wishing you a quick recovery."
The former Top 10 star was set for a first-round match against 7th seed and defending finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Zizou Bergs, a lucky loser from qualifying, has been elevated to the main draw to face seventh-seeded Tsitsipas.
Berrettini has not competed since last year's US Open, where he retired from his second-round match due to an ankle injury. He went 12-11 in the 2023 season.
His best Grand Slam result was at Wimbledon in 2021, where he lost the final to Novak Djokovic...////...
