Rescue operations intensify at SLBC tunnel in Telangana; Cadaver dogs deployed

Hyderabad, Mar 27 (Reporter) Rescue operations are in full swing at the SLBC tunnel accident site with specialized teams working around the clock to locate the trapped workers. The accident, which occurred on February 22, left eight workers stranded inside the tunnel. So far, the bodies of two victims have been recovered and handed over to their families. Authorities are making determined efforts to expedite the rescue of the remaining six workers. In a significant development, the Telangana government has appointed Special Officer Shivshankar Loteti (IAS) to oversee and accelerate the rescue operations. A review meeting was held at 1000 hours on Thursday, where senior officials of the rescue teams discussed strategies to enhance the pace of the mission. Addressing the meeting, Loteti stated that rescue teams from both central and state governments have been relentlessly working for the past 34 days, with 600 personnel deployed in three shifts daily to ensure a well-coordinated and effective effort. He explained that continuous removal of soil and tunnel boring machine (TBM) parts is being carried out to facilitate the rescue mission. Additionally, waste generated inside the tunnel is being systematically cleared using a loco train, while high-capacity pumps are being used to remove spring water entering the tunnel. To strengthen search efforts, specially trained cadaver dogs from Kerala were deployed at 1100 hours on Thursday to help locate the trapped workers. Loteti also assured that all necessary provisions, including food, accommodation, and healthcare, are being provided to the rescue personnel. Several key officials attended the review meeting, including Army Officer Vikas Singh, Major Dr Vijay Kumar, Singareni Mines Rescue General Manager Baidya, Kalvakurthi RDO Srinivasulu, NDRF Assistant Commandant Kiran Kumar, SDRF Officer Giridhar Reddy, South Central Railway Officer N.
