Jaipur, Nov 13 (Reporter) Nearly 65 percent of voters exercised their franchise till 5 pm in by-elections to the seven assembly constituencies of Rajasthan, that passed off peacefully, barring stray incidents, on Wednesday.
The constituencies which went to the by-polls are Jhunjhunu, Ramgarh, Dausa, Deoli-Uniara, Chaurasi, Khinvsar and Salumbar.
Polling began peacefully at 7 a.m. amid tight security and was initially slow amid a mild cold. But later long queues of voters were seen at the polling stations and 64.82 per cent voting was recorded till 5 p.m.
The highest 71.45 per cent polling was recorded in Ramgarh assembly constituency of Alwar district, followed by 71.04 per cent in Khinvsar, 68.55 per cent in Chaurasi, 64.19 per cent in Salumbar, 61.80 per cent in Jhunjhunu, 60.61 per cent in Deoli-Uniyara and 55.63 per cent in Dausa.
Polling proceeded peacefully, and barring stray incidents, no untoward reports have been received from anywhere.
However, in the Deoli-Uniara assembly constituency, there were reports of a scuffle between independent candidate Naresh Meena and Malpura SDM at the polling station.
A large number of women and differently-abled voters also took part in the biggest festival of democracy . People were also seen taking selfies after voting. In some places, newly married couples were also seen standing before polling booths together...////...
