Sultanpur (UP), Feb 19 (Reporter) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will appear in the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur on Tuesday in connection with a defamation case filed against him by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, official sources said here on Monday.
Sources said that the court fixed February 20 as the next date in the defamation complaint case against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. He has not appeared in the court in the complaint filed five years ago and the court had sent summons and notice against.
Sources said that during the last hearing Rahul's counsel Kashi Prasad Shukla had referred to and said that the Congress leader was busy in Nagaland and Assam. He requested the court to give him time so that he could reach on the date and get bail.
During this, Rahul's Nyaya Yatra reached Rae Bareli on Monday. As per the official programme Rahul will board the plane at Amhat Airport and appear before the MP-MAL Court at Sultanpur Civil Court by road. In view of Gandhi's appearance the district administration has alerted the departments concerned.
It may be noted that BJP leader Vijay Mishra, a resident of Hanumanganj of Kotwali Dehat police station of the district, had filed a defamation case (complaint) in the court against Congress leader Rahul on August 4, 2018.
Mishra alleged that Congress leader Rahul had made objectionable remarks against the then BJP national president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a press conference held in Karnataka's capital Bengaluru on July 15, 2018.
