Chandigarh, Nov 23 (Reporter) The Ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab won three of four assembly seats in the byelection held on November 20. According to results declared by the Election Commission of India, AAP won Dera Baba Nanak, Gidderbaha and Chabbewal seats while the Congress won a single seat, Barnala. BJP scored a zero in a triangular contest for the four assembly seats necessitated after the incumbent legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year. Dera Baba Nanak faced a tough contest where AAP's Gurdeep Singh Randhawa defeated Congress' Jatinder Kaur Randhawa by a margin of 5699 votes. AAP candidate got 59104 votes, while Congress candidate got 53405 votes and BJP's Ravi Kiran Singh Kahlon getting 6505 votes only. In high-stakes Gidderbaha contest, AAP's Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon defeated Amrita Warring, wife of Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Raja Amarinder Singh Warring, with a margin of 21969 votes. Dhillon got 71644 votes and Warring could get 49675 votes. Former Finance Minister and BJP candidate Manpreet Singh Badal remained a distant third with 12227 votes. Chabbewal seat was won by Dr Ishank Chabbewal, son of Hoshiyarpur MP Rajkumar Chabbewal, who had left Congress to join AAP ahead of Lok Sabha election in June. Ishank defeated his nearest rival and Congress candidate Ranjit Kumar by a margin of 28,690 votes. Ishank polled 51904 votes while Ranjeet Kumar garnered 23214 votes. Barnala was the only consolation prize for Congress where Kuldeep Singh Dhillon won the seat by a thin margin of 2157 votes. He got 28254 votes and his nearest rival AAP's Harinder Singh Dhaliwal could get 26097 votes. With 17958 votes, the BJP Candidate Kewal Singh Dhillon secured the third spot. With these results AAP's tally in 117-member assembly rose to 94 and the strength of Congress fell to 15 from 17 seats, which it won in the 2022 assembly election...////...
