Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the State Government’s commitment is not only to provide tap water to every household but also to ensure that the supply remains continuous, sustainable and of high quality in the years ahead. He emphasised that the policy for the operation and maintenance of rural tap water schemes should be designed in such a way that every village has a permanent arrangement for clean drinking water, ensuring that no family faces difficulties in accessing it.
CM Dr. Yadav was addressing a meeting held on Thursday at Samatva Bhawan, CM Residence, to discuss the draft policy for the operation and maintenance of rural tap water supply schemes.
The Chief Minister said that these schemes should not be confined only to construction works but must have a permanent and efficient system for operation and maintenance, so that they function at full capacity in the long run. He also stressed the need to promote community participation at the village level, enabling rural communities to take ownership of the schemes.
CM Dr. Yadav highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Jal Jeevan Mission has transformed the face of rural India, and Madhya Pradesh has achieved remarkable progress in this direction.
It was decided in the meeting that the draft policy titled ‘Rural Tap Water Scheme Operation, Maintenance and Management Policy’, prepared by the Public Health Engineering Department, will be implemented for three years after competent approval. With this policy in place, the smooth and long-term functioning of single-village tap water schemes, similar to group water supply schemes, will be ensured.
As per the provisions of this policy, rural tap water schemes will continue to be operated by the respective Gram Panchayats, while the Public Health Engineering Department, through contracted agencies, will handle maintenance-related tasks to support and strengthen the operational framework.
