Srinagar, June 21 (Reporter) National Conference leaders and newly elected Members of the Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad and Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep his word on holding Assembly election, restoring statehood, and bridging development gaps in Jammu and Kashmir with concrete action. The Prime Minister on Thursday said in Srinagar that preparations for Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have begun, and that statehood would soon be returned to the Union Territory. A day after the announcement, the NC MPs argued that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are tired of empty promises and meaningless rhetoric. "It's time for some real progress. Let's see some action instead of just words. The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve more than just lip service. "It is time for the Prime Minister to deliver on his promises and bring about real change in the region. The future of Jammu and Kashmir hangs in the balance, and it is up to Prime Minister Modi to make a difference. The time for action is now," their statement said. Former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and Altaf Bukhari’s Jammu & Kashmir Apni Party party have welcomed Modi's announcement. “Prime Minister's announcement that preparations for the assembly elections have begun and that J&K will get back its statehood is highly significant. People have been eagerly waiting for the fulfillment of the promise for the restoration of statehood to J&K and their democratic right to choose their own representatives to place them at the helm.
