PM Modi chairs meeting on Kuwait fire tragedy; announces Rs 2 lac for families of dead

New Delhi, June 12 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a review meeting on the fire tragedy in Kuwait in which a number of Indian nationals died and many were injured, at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi. The blaze at the six-storey labour camp in Mangaf building in Kuwait City claimed nearly 50 lives, mostly of Indian nationals. Prime Minister Modi directed that Government of India should extend all possible assistance. He also directed that MOS External Affairs KV Singh should immediately travel to Kuwait to oversee the relief measures and facilitate expeditious repatriation of the mortal remains, a press statement said. Prime Minister announced ex- gratia relief of Rupees 2 lakh to the families of the deceased India nationals from the Prime Minister Relief Fund. Prime Minister expressed his deep sorrow at the unfortunate incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. He wished speedy recovery of those injured. Those present at the meeting include Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, the Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh, Principal Secretary to PM Pramod Kumar Mishra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and other senior officials.
