Shimla, Jun 9 (Reporter) The Congress party on Sunday condemned the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for ignoring Himachal Pradesh by not including any of its four BJP MPs in Union Cabinet, further fuelling the sentiment of neglect and disappointment among the state’s residents.
In a statement issued here, Sanjay Awasthi, working president of the State Congress party, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for breaching his promises to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
"Hopes of the people were dashed when none of the MPs from Himachal Pradesh were given a ministerial berth," the Congress leader said.
Despite referring to the state as his "second home", Modi did not appoint a single minister from Himachal Pradesh.
He argued that this step-motherly treatment reveals a clear disregard for the interests of the state.
Awasthi highlighted that the Prime Minister had solicited votes by promising to repay the faith shown by the people of the state.
Yet, the failure to appoint even one minister from Himachal has left the state's residents feeling betrayed, he argued and questioned how the Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur would defend Modi’s neglect of Himachal Pradesh.
The disappointment is particularly acute given that the people of Himachal Pradesh supported the BJP by winning all four seats, he noted.
Awasthi pointed out that the absence of a former Union minister from the new cabinet demonstrates a
continued neglect of the state.
While reminding the state BJP of Modi’s election speeches, he suggested that they were now exposed as mere rhetoric.
Awasthi expressed concern that the interests of Himachal Pradesh will be overlooked, as they have been in the past, without representation in the Union cabinet.
The Congress leader accused Modi of using flowery speeches to deceive the people of Himachal for his own interests...////...
