Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 (Reporter) In a special drive against online financial fraud, the Cyber Division of Kerala Police has arrested 286 individuals, frozen 61,361 bank accounts, and seized 18,653 SIM cards and 59,218 mobile phones used in committing the frauds.
As part of the crackdown, an amount of Rs 6.5 crore has been successfully returned to the victims, while Rs 26.26 crores of the total defrauded amount was frozen in bank accounts.
Efforts are underway to ensure that the defrauded amounts are returned to the victims as quickly as possible through court procedures.
Between January and March 2025, Kerala registered 9,539 complaints related to online financial fraud. Victims are advised to report such incidents within one hour - the ‘Golden Hour’ of losing money so as to maximize the chances of apprehending the culprits.
