Mysuru, July 11 (Reporter) In a bid to quell persistent speculation over a change in Karnataka’s top leadership, Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah today reaffirmed that his father, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, will complete his full five-year term.
Speaking to the media in Mysuru, Yathindra dismissed talks of a mid-term leadership shift, saying, “This matter is not even before the Congress high command. The BJP has been saying since day one that our government will fall or the CM will change — but nothing of the sort has happened.”
He acknowledged that discussions within the party could arise as the government nears its 2.5-year mark in November, but emphasised that the ultimate decision lies with the party high command and MLAs. “Some leaders may be aspirants, and that’s natural. But the final say belongs to the leadership,” he stated.
In New Delhi, CM Siddaramaiah echoed the same sentiment, asserting there is "no vacancy" for the Chief Minister's post and firmly stating that he remains in the chair. He also ruled out speculation of handing over power to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar later this year, as was widely rumored under a supposed power-sharing pact.
PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, considered close to Siddaramaiah, backed the CM's stance and said only about 10 per cent of legislators may be discussing leadership change. “This is not new. The CM has only reiterated his earlier stand. The media should now put an end to these speculations,” he said.
Referring to the 2023 legislature party meeting where Siddaramaiah was chosen by majority vote, Jarkiholi added, “The CM may have alluded to that when he mentioned having more MLA support.”
The synchronized statements from the CM, his son, and key ministers indicate a strong pushback from Siddaramaiah’s camp against ongoing internal speculation and a clear signal to party dissenters ahead of the government’s halfway mark...////...
