Omar, Mehbooba slam Modi government over detention of Wangchuk

Srinagar, Oct 1 (Reporter) Two former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday hit out at the Narendra Modi government over the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. Ladakh-based environmental activist Wangchuk and around 120 others were detained at the Singhu border on Monday night with his supporters during his march to Delhi from Ladakh to demand a sixth schedule status for their Union Territory. People's Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti said even the fundamental right to protest has been "snatched" from the people. "Even the very fundamental right to protest has been snatched from us for raising our voice against the onslaught on our identity & resources. We stand in solidarity with the people of Ladakh," Mehbooba said in a post on X. The National Conference vice president hit out at Modi government saying they “couldn’t stop the Chinese incursion” and instead stopped its own citizens from peacefully entering the national capital city. “The people of Ladakh were made a number of promises which the Modi government didn’t keep. When their patience ran out they had no option but to walk to Delhi to remind the Union government of its betrayal,” Omar posted on X. “ Instead of a patient hearing what they got was the might of the government used to detain them before they could enter Delhi. A government that couldn’t stop the Chinese incursion instead stops its own citizens from peacefully entering their national capital city," he added...////...
