Srinagar, Jan 12 (Reporter) Former Chief Minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah on Friday targeted the BJP-driven government in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing it of reducing the symbol of democracy to a sorry state. Omar hit out at the government for allowing the shooting of drama series "Maharani" in the J&K Legislative Assembly. “The true face of “the mother of democracy”, where once elected representatives of the people from all parties, religions, backgrounds & parts of J&K legislated on matters of great importance now actors & extras use it as a set for TV dramas,” Omar said in a post on X, while sharing the pictures of the drama series. The NC leader said that it was a shame that the J & K government has reduced the symbol of democracy. “ What a shame that the BJP driven government in J&K has reduced the symbol of democracy, where they once sat & governed, to this sorry state of affairs. They even have a fake CM coming out of an office I was privileged to occupy for 6 years. What an absolute shame!!!!,” he added. Omar’s outburst came two days after he wondered if India was a mother of democracy, why that mother was getting murdered in Jammu and Kashmir. The NC leader had even asked the Election Commission of India to hang its head in shame for its “failure” to conduct Assembly elections and instead getting direction to do so from the Apex Court. Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government since 2018 when the BJP pulled out of the Mehbooba Mufti led coalition. The last assembly elections in J&K were held in 2014...////...
