Odisha: ED raids NGO run by brother of top BJD leader

Bhubaneswar, Dec 18 (Reporter) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted raids on Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA), an NGO run by senior BJD leader and former Minister Pramila Mallik’s brother late Khirod Mallik in connection with a Rs.231 crore loan fraud case. The raids were conducted at three places in Sambalpur in Western Odisha which included the residence of late Khirod Mallik, the office of BISWA and the office of BISWA in Delhi under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), sources said. Late Khirod is accused of misusing a loan of Rs 231 crore, which he had secured in the name of his NGO called Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA).The loans were secured from several public and private sector banks, and the NGO had allegedly mutualized the fund for other purposes. A seven-time MLA in the Odisha legislative Assembly, Pramila Mallik had served as the cabinet minister holding Women and Child Development and Revenue and Disaster management portfolios during 2004-2011 in the Naveen Patnaik government. She was also Speaker of Odisha Assembly during 22.09.2023 to 20.06.2024 and government chief whip during 2019 to 2022 in the BJD government...////...
