Gokarna (Karnataka), March 27 (Reporter) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday stated that there was nothing wrong with priests offering special prayers for him to become the chief minister.
"There is nothing wrong with priests offering special prayers. They too have their wishes," he told reporters when queried on the matter.
However, he emphasised that Siddaramaiah currently holds the position of Chief Minister, and they are working under his leadership. Despite some people expressing their desire for him to become Chief Minister, Shivakumar clarified that it's ultimately the party's decision.
"Many people think I should become the Chief Minister. I cannot stop them from expressing their opinions. Regardless of who aspires for the post, it’s ultimately the party’s decision. I prayed for good rains and crops during Siddaramaiah’s tenure as CM," he said.
These comments have once again invigorated the discussion on the power-sharing formula, which has been a source of bitterness between the two camps of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.
Continuing his temple visits for the second consecutive day, Shivakumar visited the renowned Mahabaleshwara temple in Gokarna and participated in the 'Atmalinga' worship, offering special prayers to Lord Shiva and performing rituals like 'Rudrabhisheka' and 'Ksheerabhisheka'.
During the prayers, priests also prayed for Shivakumar to attain the post of Chief Minister.
Shivakumar also criticised the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of adopting concepts like guarantees from the Congress.
Regarding BJP MLA Shivaram Hebbar joining the Congress, Shivakumar stated that those who align with the party's ideology are welcome, and once the party decides, it's final.
Accompanying Shivakumar during the temple visits were Minister for Fisheries, Ports, and Inland Water Transport Mankala Vaidya, Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha Congress candidate Anjali Nimbalkar, and MLA Satish Sail.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Shivakumar had visited the Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple, Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, Sringeri Sharada Peetham, and Gowrigadde Ashram, seeking blessings before starting his campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka...////...
