NIA charges two more in Karnataka ISIS terror case

New Delhi, Aug 19 (Reporter) In a major breakthrough in the battle against ISIS-related terrorism, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted Abdul Matheen Taha and Mussavir Hussain Shazib in the Karnataka Al-Hind ISIS module case. Both men, residents of Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, were apprehended on April 12 after evading capture for some time. The chargesheet, filed in the ongoing conspiracy case, includes multiple sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act), bringing the total number of accused in this case to 18. The NIA took over the investigation from the Bengaluru City police on January 23, 2020. According to the NIA's findings, Abdul Matheen Taha, who had self-radicalised, was a key figure in recruiting and radicalising Mussavir Hussain Shazib. Taha’s involvement with an online handler known as Bhai (or Laptop Bhai) and his introduction of Bhai to Mehaboob Pasha, the founder of the Al-Hind Trust in Bengaluru, were crucial in furthering ISIS’s agenda in India. The investigation also reveals that Taha and Shazib harboured other accused individuals, including Thowfeek and Abdul Shameem. These individuals were implicated in the murder of Wilson, a Sub-Inspector with the Tamil Nadu Police, at the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
