Modi likely to visit Kolkata ahead of Trinamool’s martyr rally on July 21

Kolkata, July 5 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit West Bengal once again this July, just before his election campaign in Bihar which is scheduled for assembly polls later this year. The state BJP unit under the leadership of new elected president Samik Bhattacharya is making all efforts to bring the Prime Minister before the Trinamool Congress martyr’s day rally on July 21. Sources in the party said that efforts are on to bring him to the state on July 18. According to the plan sent by the state BJP unit to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister is requested to come to the state and hold a rally in Dum Dum on July 18 before heading for Bihar. “Coordination is already underway between the Prime Minister’s Office in Delhi and the state BJP leadership to finalise the details. Two grounds near Dum Dum Airport have been shortlisted for the event, and one will soon be confirmed. However, everything depends on the availability of the Prime Minister,” a senior member of the BJP state committee said. The Prime Minister’s visit could also coincide with the much-delayed inauguration of the Noapara-to-Airport metro line in Kolkata, which is nearing completion. Metro Rail authorities are exploring the possibility of having Modi inaugurate the line during this trip, which was postponed multiple times earlier. “We are trying hard to ensure that the Prime Minister addresses a rally in Bengal before heading to Bihar. This would not only energize our party cadre ahead of the Assembly polls but also send a strong political message just before TMC’s July 21 programme,” the member added. According to party insiders, such a move would help the BJP counter the TMC narrative and serve as a morale booster for workers who are now regrouping under Bhattacharya’s leadership. Modi last visited the state on May 29, when he addressed a rally in Alipurduar. In his speech, he launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool government, accusing it of fostering violence, lawlessness, corruption, unemployment, and depriving the poor of their rights.
