Manipur: Arms and explosives recovered in multi-district raids

Imphal, July 5 (Reporter) Security forces carried out extensive search operations and area domination drills across multiple vulnerable and fringe zones in Manipur. The coordinated efforts carried out yesterday led to the seizure of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosive materials, underscoring ongoing militant threats and the government’s intensified crackdown during the last 24 hours, police today said. In Imphal East district, a significant haul was recovered from the foothills and adjoining areas of Chingkhei Ching hill under Porompat Police Station. Among the items seized were two .303 rifles- one with a magazine and one without—along with nine rounds of live .303 ammunition. A 9mm pistol, a No. 36 hand grenade, two rounds of 5.56x45mm live ammunition, and three MK-1 explosives were also found. In addition, authorities recovered twelve 9mm live rounds, two detonators, an AK-47 rifle bayonet, a 9mm SMG carbine magazine, a .303 LMG magazine, a tear smoke shell, a radio wireless set charger, two .303 ammunition charger clips, one 81mm mortar shell, and ten blank .303 cartridges. Meanwhile, in Churachandpur district, security forces uncovered more weapons and explosives from Chakmual village and nearby areas under Churachandpur Police Station. The cache included a single-barrel locally made rifle with a magazine, five bolt-action cartridges, two live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and eight tear smoke munition explosives. Operations conducted in the Chanbirok hill area under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district yielded further recoveries. These included a modified bolt-action rifle, a 9mm submachine carbine gun with a magazine, a No. 36 high-explosive grenade without a detonator, a helmet, three rifle magazines of unspecified type, four rounds of 5.56mm INSAS rifle ammunition, and four improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
