Mirwaiz urges dialogue on leaders' death anniversaries

Srinagar, May 21 (Reporter) On the death anniversaries of separatist leaders Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq and Abdul Ghani Lone, Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday said the political foresight of both leaders and their belief in resolving the Kashmir issue through dialogue was once again being acknowledged globally as the way forward. He said dialogue was seen by the leaders as the best way to end the uncertainty faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to bring peace and stability to the region. Molvi Farooq was killed by militants on May 21, 1990, while Lone was gunned down by the militants on this day in 2002. Over the years, a valley-wide shutdown has been observed on May 21 on the death anniversary of the two leaders. However, over the last few years, there has been no shutdown call on their anniversaries. In a message posted on the social media platform X, Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz paid tributes to two leaders Mirwaiz expressed strong disappointment over being yet again barred by authorities from visiting the “Martyrs’ Graveyard” at Eidgah Srinagar to offer Fatiha and pay homage. “As expected, authorities again barred us from visiting Eidgah to offer Fatiha and pay homage to Shaheed-i-Millat and our beloved Shaheed-i-Hurriyat Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone Sahib,” he said. Recalling the political vision of both these leaders, Mirwaiz said their faith in resolving the Kashmir conflict through peaceful dialogue is once again being echoed globally as the only viable path to peace. “The political foresightedness that both these leaders exhibited, their faith in resolution of the Kashmir conflict through dialogue, which they saw as the best means to end lingering uncertainty for the people of J&K and as the catalyst for ensuring peace and stability in the region, is once again acknowledged by the world as the way forward. Hope India and Pakistan pay heed to it,” he said.
