BJP MLA surrenders in court in Rajasthan's Jhalawar

Jhalawar (Rajasthan), May 21 (Reporter) Kanwarlal Meena, BJP MLA from Anta assembly constituency in Jhalawar-Baran Lok Sabha seat, surrendered before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court in Manoharthana, Jhalawar district, on Wednesday. His surrender came after the Supreme Court refused to grant him relief in a 2005 case where he allegedly threatened an SDM with a pistol in a panchayat election. Before surrendering, Meena visited the Kamkheda Balaji temple in Aklera and offered prayers. Meena was sentenced to three years imprisonment in the 2005 case. The Supreme Court upheld the sentence on May 7, directing Meena to surrender within two weeks. The case dates back to February 3, 2005, when Meena allegedly threatened SDM Ram Niwas Mehta with a pistol during a panchayat election. Meena was acquitted by a lower court in 2018 but was later convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment by the additional district judge court in Aklera in 2020. The high court also upheld the sentence, and subsequently, the Supreme Court refused to grant him relief...////...
