Imphal, July 26 UNI : In a major crackdown aimed at restoring peace and stability in strife-torn Manipur, coordinated operations led by Manipur Police,Security Forces (SFs) today resulted in the recovery of 90 arms, 728 ammunition, and warlike stores from multiple locations across the valley districts.
K Kabib, IGP, Manipur Police said acting on specific intelligence, simultaneous search operations were conducted in the peripheral and suspected areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur. The joint teams, comprising personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and the Indian Army/Assam Rifles, launched early-morning raids in a concerted effort to dismantle armed networks threatening public safety.
The operations led to the recovery of 90 weapons, including AK series rifles, M16s, INSAS rifles and light machine guns, self-loading rifles (SLRs), .303 rifles, pistols, carbines, other rifles, bore-action and bolt-action guns, anti-riot and lathode guns, double-barrel shotguns, local-made pipe guns, and even two-inch mortars.
Alongside the weapons, a total of 728 rounds of various types of live ammunition were seized. This included 7.62mm, 5.56mm, .303, 9mm, and .32 caliber rounds. The forces also recovered 21 grenades, a high-explosive mortar shell, nine tube launchers, and six improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Additionally, 21 assorted magazines and 24 wireless handsets were confiscated during the operation.
Kabib noted that these intelligence-led operations mark a significant achievement in the effort to restore law and order in the region. The coordinated actions are part of an ongoing strategy to remove illegal arms from civilian areas and to curb the activities of armed groups that disrupt peace and security.
Manipur Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens and fostering a peaceful environment. They urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information regarding illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.
