Patna, July 26 (Reporter) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced a significant hike in the monthly pension for journalists, raising it from Rs 6,000 to Rs15,000 under the Bihar Journalists' Honor Pension Scheme.
In a post on social media platform X, Kumar said the revised pension will be provided to all eligible journalists in the state.
"I am pleased to inform that under the 'Bihar Patrakaar Samman Pension Scheme', instructions have been given to the department to provide a monthly pension of Rs 15,000 instead of Rs 6,000 to all eligible journalists," he said in a post on X.
He further announced that in the event of a journalist’s death, the dependent spouse will now receive a monthly lifelong pension of Rs10,000, up from the earlier Rs 3,000.
"Additionally, in the event of the death of journalists receiving a pension under the 'Bihar Patrakaar Samman Pension Scheme', instructions have been given to provide their dependent spouse with a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 instead of Rs 3,000 for their lifetime. Journalists play a crucial role in democracy, " he added.
Highlighting the vital role of the media in a democratic society, the Chief Minister said, “They are the fourth pillar of democracy and have a significant role in social development.
