Shimla, Feb 2 (Reporter) The world-famous tourist resort of Manali in Himachal Pradesh froze under one foot (30 cm) of snowfall, which is a major spell of precipitation in this winter season. The Indian Meteorological Department said on Friday that Manali has received fresh snowfall of 30 cm since last evening. This is a major spell of snowfall in the winter season. Kothi in the district had the highest 35-cm snowfall; most of the hills are wrapped in a thick blanket of snow. Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul Spiti, got half-foot of snowfall; the gateway of Lahaul Spiti district, 13050 ft high Rohtang Pass; the gateway of Spiti valley, 14500 ft Kunzum Pass; and other highreaches, including Seven Sisters Hills, Lady of Keylong, and Goshal Hill, had three to four feet of snow. Gondla and Kukumesri had 17.50 cm and 14 cm of snowfall. Sports Authority of India high altitude sports center Shilaroo had 42 cm of snowfall, Khadrala 35 cm, Chopal 20 cm, Saharan 10 cm, and Shimla five cm. Tourist resort Kufri also had 15 cm, and Narkanda had one foot of snowfall. Chamba district recorded very heavy snowfall in the last two days; Bharmour had 25 cm, Saloni 15 cm, and Chatarari 10 cm. Kalpa and Recongpeo had eight cm each of snow, and Pooh had two. Nagrota Suriyan in Kangra district had 57.3 mm of rain: Slapper of Mandi 45.1 mm, Kahu in Hamirpur 38.2 mm, Ghaghas in Bilaspur 38 mm, Jogindernagar 35 mm in Mandi Karsog 35.2 mm, Berthin and Bilaspur 35 mm,Nadaun in Hamirpur 31 mm, and Airport Jubberhati 35.8 mm. The minimum temperature plummeted about three to four degrees below normal. Thursday was the coldest night of the season, as Keylong had around Minus fifteen degrees, Kaza Minus 18, Manali minus six, Kalp in Kinnaur minus seven, Narkanda and Kufri minus six, Dalhousie minus three, Shimla minus 0.6, Bhuntar and Jubberhatti Airport 0.5, Solan 1.5 Hamirpur, Dharmshala and Mandi two, Kangra and Una 3.5, Bilaspur four, and Nahan 4.7 degrees, respectively. Met Office forecast mainly dry weather till 24 hours; however, rain and snowfall would continue in the state from tomorrow onwards and a yellow alert of rain and snowfall at most places on February 4 in all parts of the state; rain or snowfall at mid and high reaches at many and few places issued for Feb 3 and 5. After mainly sunny and dry weather conditions, the state administration has started the snow clearance work and restoration of power supply on the war footing; however, many places in Shimla, Chamba, Lahaul Spiti, and Kullu districts are still snowbound...////...
