Bhubaneswar, June 5 (Reporter) Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling has called for a report on the death of six patients in quick succession at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput.
Mahaling, accompanied by senior health officials, visited the hospital on Thursday to assess the situation in light of the public outrage following the deaths of six patients on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
The Health Minister sought a report from the hospital authorities and said that stringent action would be taken against those found responsible for the tragic deaths.
During his visit, Mahaling faced protests from local residents and Congress activists who blamed medical negligence for the deaths.
An internal inquiry at SLNMCH, however, found no lapses in medical or nursing care, according to Dr. Sushant Kumar Sahu, the hospital’s Dean-cum-Superintendent.
Official sources said a three-member team from MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and a two-member team from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack have been sent to SLNMCH by the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) to investigate the cause of the deaths and submit a report.
The bodies of the deceased patients have been sent for post-mortem examinations to ascertain the exact cause of death...////...
