Mumbai, Sep 12 (Reporter) The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Thursday termed as ‘an unprecedented’ the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the residence of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud in New Delhi for performing a puja of Lord Ganesha.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut raised doubts if the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction of Sena would get justice under Supreme Court Chief Justice Chandrachud and advised him to recuse himself from the the hearing of the petition on Maharashtra’s two major political parties -- the Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP).
“Justice Chandrachud is retiring in November. The Ganesh festival is celebrated at several places in Delhi too. But I am not sure if Modi has visited any of the houses other than of CJI Chandrachud. He visited Chandrachud’s house and together performed the aarti,” he said.
The Rajya Sabha MP also asked if the Prime Minister, who is also a party in the case, and the Chief Justice, who is going to deliver the verdict in the case, were following the Constitution and protocol.
Top leaders of MVA like NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule and Clyde Crasto and Congress’ Atul Londhe and Sachin Sawant, among others, expressed their reservations over the development.
Ms Sule said that when she learnt of the development, “I was surprised… But I have full faith in the judiciary, though not in the government.”
Congress’ state chief spokesperson Atul Londhe in a cryptic remark said, “The PM going to the CJI’s home for Lord Ganpati darshan… this has never been seen before...////...
