Mumbai, Feb 20 (Reporter) A court in Nashik on Thursday sentenced Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Advocate Manikrao Kokate to two years in jail in a cheating case related to submission of fake documents to obtain flats under government quota 30 years ago. The court has also sentenced the minister's brother, Vijay Kokate, to two years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each in the case of embezzlement of flats provided under the Chief Minister's quota. This verdict has put Agriculture minister's MLA and ministerial posts in jeopardy. Generally, a flat is provided to a person with a low income at a low-rate by the government, through the Chief Minister's quota. For this, the person concerned has to submit an affidavit stating that he does not have a flat anywhere in his name and necessary documents. However, Adv Kokate and his brother Vijay Kokate obtained two flats from the CM's quota in Nirman Apartment in ​​the Nashik city by submitting such documents in 1995. After complaints were received in this regard, the district administration conducted an investigation. Then, Vishwanath Patil of the Urban Land (Ceiling Regulation) Department in the district collector's office had filed a complaint against Adv Kokate, his brother Vijay Kokate and other two people for allegedly defrauding the government by acquiring flats on the basis of fake documents. Based on this, a case of fraud was registered against the four people at the Sarkarwada police station in Nashik. Then, the district court today convicted minister Adv Kokate and his brother Vijay Kokate and sentenced them to two years in prison and also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 each.
