Maha: Campaigning in 288 assembly constituencies picks up

Mumbai, Nov 17 (Reporter) Election campaigning in the 288 assembly constituencies across Maharashtra intensified for state assembly elections due to be held on November 20 in a single phase. There are altogether 4,136 candidates in fray in these constituencies, including 3,771 males and 363 females. Prominent among them are Chief Minister Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena), Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis (BJP), Ajit Pawar (NCP), Aaditya Thackeray (UBT), Amit Thackeray (MNS), Dhanananay Munde (NCP-AP), Rohit Pawar (NCP-SP), Vijay Wadettiwar (Congress), Bala Nandgaonkar (MNS), Bacchu Kadu (Maha Parivartan Agadhi), Prithviraj Chavan (Cong), Dilip Walse-Patil (NCP-AP), Jitendra Awahd (NCP-SP), Radhakrishna Vike-Patil (BJP) among others. Campaigning is underway in these constituencies and will come to an end on evening of November 18. So far, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar, Jayant Patil, CM Eknath Shinde, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, MPCC president Nana Patole, DyCMs Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar among several state and local leaders addressed elections rallies, corner meetings, roadshows, press conferences, door-to-door meetings, campaigning through social media platform to raise awareness about their policies and programmes among public. Although the main poll battle will be between the ruling Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA) camps, the Vanchit Bahujan Agadhi, BSP and Maha Parivartan Agadhi and other smaller parties and independent candidates also pose a challenge in this election. Allegations and counter-allegations were made during campaigning from both the sides. Also, they tried to lure the electorates by promising several schemes in their party manifestos. A total of 9,70,25,119 registered voters in the state, including 5,22,00,739 males and 4,69,96,279 females, will exercise their right to vote in more than one lakh polling stations established in 288 constituencies of the state.
